Vancouver coach Alain Vigneault understands what the reeling Bruins are going through as they desperately search for a win. Leafs stunned by death of GM Burke’s son (AP)

A moment of silence will be held for Brendan Burke, the son of Toronto general manager Brian Burke who died in a car accident, before the Maple Leafs play Ottawa on Saturday night. The 21-year-old Burke died after his car slid sideways into the path of another car on a snowy Indiana road on Friday. Burke's friend, 18-year-old Mark Reedy of Bloomfield Hills, Mich., also died in the accident.

Caps host Penguins with win streak at 13 (AP)

In their quest to set the NHL record for consecutive wins, the Washington Capitals face a familiar obstacle Sunday: Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins. The Capitals have won 13 straight, four short of matching the longest run in NHL history. That mark was set by the 1992-93 Penguins, and now the current-day version of that team has a chance to preserve that mark — weather permitting.

Red Sox’s Vinik agrees to buy Lightning (AP)

Boston Red Sox minority owner Jeff Vinik agreed to buy the Tampa Bay Lightning on Friday, taking on the challenge of turning around a franchise that has struggled since winning the Stanley Cup in 2004. Vinik is purchasing Tampa Bay Sports & Entertainment from a group led by Oren Koules and Len Barrie, the team said in a statement.
