Ville Leino, Darren Helm and the Detroit Red Wings breathed a sigh of relief. Leino's goal with 3:52 left broke a tie, and Helm scored two short-handed goals to lift Detroit to a 4-2 win over the Colorado Avalanche on Thursday night. Pavel Datsyuk also scored for the Red Wings, who had been shut out in three of four games.

Ryan Clowe scored the lone shootout goal in the sixth round to lift the San Jose Sharks to their seventh straight win, 3-2 over the Phoenix Coyotes on Thursday night. Phoenix had its franchise-record 10-game winning streak snapped. Dan Boyle netted his 100th NHL goal, and Kent Huskins also scored for the Sharks, who beat the Coyotes in the shootout for the second time in four games.
